Headlines about American politics and society tend to be loud and shrill, particularly since Donald J. Trump took office for a second time. Paradoxically, however, they are even louder and more shrill on this side of the Atlantic, as freelance journalist and author Marc Neumann notes. In his reports, articles and other contributions for publications such as the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and his LinkedIn blog Neumanns Whisper, he focuses on the reality behind simplistic narratives and pays attention to nuances. In conversation with Grüezi Amerika!, Marc Neumann shares his thoughts on the state of the nation and how it is perceived in German-speaking Europe.
Originally, Marc Neumann studied philosophy, German literature, and linguistics at the University of Zurich. He also completed a Master's degree in social anthropology at New York University (NYU). After spending many years working in corporate communications in Switzerland and the United States, he became a freelance journalist, writing for various German-language media outlets. Most recently, he examined the media glorification of Luigi Mangione, who shot and killed the CEO of United Healthcare in the middle of Manhattan.
