9590 students at the University of St.Gallen

During the current autumn semester 2022, 9590 students from 96 countries are enrolled at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) (previous year: 9291). The proportion of women is 35.8 percent. (35.7).

In the assessment year, the first level at HSG, a total of 1859 (previous year: 1925) were enrolled. At the Bachelor's level there are 3344 (3149). A total of 3757 (3577) students are enrolled at the Master's level, and 584 (597) at the doctoral level. A further 46 (43) students are enrolled in additional courses.

Among the cantons of origin (place of residence at the time of acquisition of the study permit), Zurich is most strongly represented with 1347 (1287). In second place is the canton of St.Gallen with 1037 (1024) students, followed by Thurgau with 405 (401). 110 (104) students from Appenzell Ausserrhoden and 38 (40) from Appenzell Innerrhoden study at HSG. 

The largest group of foreign students (place of residence at the time of acquisition of the study permit) comes from German-speaking countries: A total of 1730 (1701) students come from Germany, 286 (296) from Austria and 80 (72) from Liechtenstein. Larger groups of students also come from Italy 182 (149), France 121 (126), China 74 (64), Singapore 55 (12), Spain 40 (38), Brazil 37 (28), Sweden 26 (28), and Ukraine 23 (6).
