Leadership: "We need masculinity norms that don't exclude women."

Despite the trend toward new work and agility, the so-called "heroic leadership style" is still widespread in companies. This is closely linked to prevailing norms of masculinity, such as strength, assertiveness and autonomy. This is also the reason why heroic leadership is so persistent, says Prof. Dr. Julia Nentwich from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the HSG in an interview. It is true that this leadership style sometimes has its raison d'être. But it needs to be expanded to include post-heroic elements and to establish norms of masculinity that do not exclude women and alternative masculinities.
