In 2005, the University of St. Gallen awarded Joseph Nye an honorary doctorate in political science (Dr. rer. publ. h.c.) in recognition of his outstanding services to political science, in particular the theory of international relations.

Prof. James Davis, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science at the University of St.Gallen (HSG), honours Joe Nye as a 'giant in the field of international relations'. The HSG bows to an outstanding life's work and remembers Joe Nye with great gratitude and solidarity.
