26 February 2014. The Founder of the Year Prize will be awarded in the cafeteria of the HSG’s Central Institute Building in Dufourstrasse 40, St.Gallen. The prize is awarded annually to an HSG entrepreneur with particularly unusual business ideas. In previous years, the prize went to Dr. Alexander Ilic for his Dacuda scanner mouse (2011), to Adrian Locher for the e-commerce portal deindeal.ch (2012) and to Johann Huber for his health app, Soma Analytics (2013).
Toolkit for founders
During the HSG Founders’ Garage, academics, start-up experts, prospective founders and young entrepreneurs will exchange their ideas at the University of St.Gallen for a week. Investors and social entrepreneurs will also be present. Initiatives like the Young Entrepreneurs Club, Start and the regional incubator Square One offer visitors to the Founders’ Garage many opportunities to extend their networks. This week is the core of the HSG Entrepreneurship Campus, the control centre for entrepreneurship at the HSG.
The Founders’ Garage with its pavilion in the Main Building of the University of St.Gallen is devoted to a different focal point every day: on Monday, 10 March, everything is about the projects of young entrepreneurs of the HSG. At 5.30 p.m. the HSG alumnus Franz Salzmann will present his start-up, Lock8. He marketed bicycle locks which, thanks to different technologies, can be developed into docking stations.
On Tuesday, 11 March, founders will learn how to approach investors successfully. Workshops about accounting, insurance, taxation and law will be on the programme during the HSG Start-up Operations Day on Wednesday, 12 March. Social entrepreneurs will be centre stage on Thursday, 13 March during the HSG Social and Sustainable Start-ups Day. In two workshops, they will work on their start-up projects for social and sustainable firms.
Start-Up Summit
Failure as an opportunity for new entrepreneurial inspiration is the topic of the summit for founders in Switzerland. On Friday and Saturday, 13 and 14 March, the Start-Up Summit, which is organised by students, will bring together about 400 young entrepreneurs with experienced founders such as Skype inventor Morten Lund.
