Career information in a casual atmosphere
During Long Night of the Careers at their universities, students will be able to discuss career matters in informal settings like a table football tournament, career games or at the bar.
Long Night of the Careers is organised by the Career Service Network and the career services of the universities involved in cooperation with companies, student organisations and further university members. “It is the first event of this type nationwide where Fachhochschulen, universities and the Federal Institutes of Technology are cooperating across cantonal and language borders,” says the overall project leader, Inés Constantin Kleven from the ETH Career Center.
“With Long Night of the Careers, we offer our students an opportunity to obtain information about career paths, to prepare for their entry into professional life and to get to know exciting people,” says Nadja Fleisch, from the University of St.Gallen and the Head of Communication of the 2015 Long Night of the Careers. “The positive response to the first Long Night of the Careers last year showed us that students appreciate this kind of career information.”
Career services organise the Long Night of the Careers
Long Night of the Careers is organised by the Career Services of ETH Zurich, the St.Gallen University of Applied Sciences, the University of St. Gallen, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of North Eastern Switzerland, the HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil, as well as the Universities of Basel, Berne, Geneva, Neuchâtel, Zurich, and the Università della Svizzera italiana. These universities all invite students to the tailor-made Long Night of the Careers on Thursday, 12 November 2015, from 6 p.m.
At the St.Gallen University of Applied Sciences, students will be able to obtain tips and tricks concerning the interview from coaches during the Long Night of the Careers, for example. Coaches will provide tips about how career entrants can prepare for an authentic appearance and how to deal with stage fright. In workshops, student visitors to the Long Night of the Careers will also learn more about starting a job in the field of social work and what the labour market currently has on offer for business graduates in Eastern Switzerland. At the St.Gallen University of Applied Sciences, students will also be able to obtain information about working as an entrepreneur and the leap into self-employment.
Career comedy and career game at the HSG
The University of St.Gallen (HSG) will offer its students a career game, numerous workshops and a career comedy in the Aula. “It’s fun to approach the career issue with a twinkle in your eye,” says Nadja Fleisch of the HSG’s Career Services Center. Comedian Joël von Mutzenbecher will demonstrate to the HSG students whatever might await them in their professional lives.
