Financial Times: HSG in 30th place
The Financial Times today published its ranking of the best European Business Schools. In the 2008 Ranking, the University of St.Gallen occupies 30th place.
1 December 2008. The University of St.Gallen has therefore not quite been able to retain the position it occupied in the previous year (2007: 25th place) in an extended field of competitors with 65 leading schools in Europe (2007: 60th place).

HEC Paris is top
The ranking is again led by HEC Paris, the London Business School, and INSEAD. The English-language IMD in Lausanne, the only other Swiss competitor, occupies 4th place.

Among the business schools in German-speaking Europe, however, the University of St.Gallen still occupies first place. The University of Mannheim came 35th, the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration came 41st and Cologne University came 62nd.

Based on individual rankings
The European business school ranking is based on the results of the individual rankings published in the course of 2008 (Executive Education Ranking, EMBA Ranking, MBA Ranking, Masters in Management Ranking).

So far, the HSG has not been able to participate in the MBA ranking and the Masters in Management ranking (pre-experience Master’s degree) on account of the FT’s rule book since the graduates of the relevant programmes, which were a result of the HSG’s early conversion to the Bologna model, have not been on the market for three years.

This automatically results in deductions in the overall assessment in the context of the European business school ranking. As soon as participation becomes possible, the relevant St.Gallen programmes will also enter the lists, after which a higher position in the overall ranking may be expected.
