In the global fashion and luxury goods industry, fierce competition and a lack of transparency have contributed towards a situation whereby not only costs have been cut, but social and ecological standards have been lowered. Growth prospects for sustainably produced fashion appear promising: in 2010, 18 per cent of consumers were aware of eco fashion; since 2006, this figure has actually trebled.
Workshops about eco fashion
The 2014 Eco Fashion Day will be devoted to the topic of “Awareness with style”. Guests of the Eco Fashion Day will be speakers from the advertising and fashion industries. Marte Hentschel (Common Works) will talk about how clothing can be produced sustainably along the entire value-creation chain and discuss the topic with panel guests. In workshops, visitors to the Eco Fashion Day will learn more about the impact of organic seals of approval and about producers’ and customers’ responsibility.
Catwalk in the Pfalzkeller
From 8 to 9.15 p.m., students will show ecological labels on the catwalk at the St.Galler Pfalzkeller. The Swiss TV-presenter Marco Fritsche will moderate the fashion show. Up-and-coming designers such as aéthérée, pamb und seam design will exhibit their collections. Globus St.Gallen will subsequently sell the clothes for one month.The event is public, tickets for the fashion show can be bought at www.un-dress.ch.
