25 November 2014. The OECD Report on Early Childhood Education and Care rates Switzerland as a “developing country” in comparison with its neighbouring countries. The international comparisons of the PISA study also show that many of the top nations attach great value to early childhood education.

Education in childhood

As a consequence of this situation, more calls for the concerted advancement of young children can now also be heard in Switzerland, according to the motto “The earlier, the better, and more of it, please”. Is this a fallacy? What does research have to say about it? What early childhood furtherance makes sense?

Guests will be able to discuss with this Prof. Dr. Doris Edelmann from the Institute of Education and Society, Pädagogische Hochschule St.Gallen, Dr. Bettina Grubenmann from the Social Work Faculty of the FHS St.Gallen, and Prof. Dr. Sabine Seufert from the Institute of Business Education and Educational Management (IWP-HSG), University of St.Gallen. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Titus Guldimann, Vice-President, Research and Further Education, Pädagogische Hochschule St.Gallen.

The absence of lectures is a deliberate feature of the Science Café. Instead, the focus will be on a discussion with guests over a cup of coffee. The discussion of early childhood education will conclude this series of events in St.Gallen.
