On 24 March 2011 from 2.30-5.30 p.m., theCenter for Disability and Integration (CDI-HSG) will be staging a symposium on “Show us that it can be done!Working worlds of people with disabilities”. In the Aula of the HSG, the CDI-HSG will for the first time award the CHF 15,000 Commitment to Action Prize to reward companies that are committed to the integration of disabled people on the primary labour market in an exemplary way. Networks promote integration People with serious disabilities hardly ever find a job on the first labour market. Andrea Bär, a member of staff at IfS-Spagat in the Austrian Vorarlberg, will be presenting a model for the professional integration of people with substantial disabilities. She will show how close cooperation among a disabled person’s “support circle” (teachers, parents, family, friends, etc.) is conducive to integration. The effectiveness of quotas at a glance In the field of politics, employment quotas for people with disabilities are the subject of controversial discussion in Switzerland at present. It was only in December 2010 that the National Council rejected a motion for the introduction of job quotas for disabled people in the context of the 6th Disability Insurance Revision. However, the scientific basis for the effectiveness of quotas was barely taken into account in this discussion. Prof. Dr. Josef Zweimüllerfrom the University of Zurich has examined the effectiveness of the employment quota in Austria and will show in his lecture whether and how a quota works.
