Setting up your user account

Setting up your user account

At the beginning of July, a HSG user account will be created for all new students.

The account will give you access to our digital platforms and services. You will receive your login details and set up instructions in your Compass mailbox. To set up the account, you will need to enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in Microsoft 365 and change the default password.

An email address (firstname.lastname@student.unisg.ch) will be assigned to you with the user account. From this point on, all emails from the university will only be sent to your HSG address. Therefore, please check your email inbox regularly. The email address also serves as your login for Microsoft 365 and other digital platforms and services.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the IT support.

Paying the semester invoice and receiving an enrolment confirmation

Paying the semester invoice and receiving an enrolment confirmation

You will receive your semester invoice in your Compass mailbox by mid-July. Please pay the invoice on time, otherwise you will not be able to select or attend any courses. You can check the payment status in Compass after approximately three working days.

Once you have paid your semester invoice, you can download your enrolment confirmation from your Compass mailbox.

You are automatically enrolled for the first semester upon admission. For subsequent semesters, you must actively enrol via Compass.

For questions regarding your semester invoice and enrolment, please contact the Dean’s Advisory Office.

Completing your admission

Completing your admission

You will receive your enrolment confirmation in your Compass postbox after you have paid your semester invoice.

  • Assessment Year: To complete the enrolment, you must upload a copy of your high school diploma via the online application portal by 31 August 2024 (calendar week 35). In addition, you must present the original of your high school diploma during StartWeek.

  • Bachelor & Master: In order to complete the enrolment, it is necessary that you submit your Bachelor's degree documents and, if applicable, exmatriculation confirmation by mail to the Admissions Office as a certified copy by 20 September 2024 (calendar week 38). For detailed information, please refer to your admission order. Depending on the nature of the documents, they can also be verified online by the Admissions Office. In this case, it is not necessary to send a certified copy by mail.

As soon as your enrolment is complete, you will receive a confirmation email to your HSG address.

If you decide to withdraw from your studies, please contact the Admissions Office by email.

Choosing your courses (bidding)

Choosing your courses (bidding)

At HSG, places on courses are allocated in a so-called bidding process. Similar to an auction, you have to set points on the courses you wish to attend. Course places are allocated at the end of each bidding round according to the number of points used or, in the event of equal bids, at random.

  • Assessment Year: Bidding in the Assessment Year runs from 9 to 12 September 2024 and will be explained in detail during the StartWeek.

  • Bachelor & Master: Bidding for Bachelor's and Master’s students starts on 22 August 2024, 3 p.m. Students will be informed about the bidding process by email.

The allocation of a course place is a prerequisite for exam registration and thus for obtaining ECTS points.

Participate in your introductory event

Participate in your introductory event

We welcome all new students at our introductory events in calendar week 37.

Participation in the StartWeek (for Assessment students) and the HSG Kick-off Days (for Bachelor's and Master's students) is mandatory. The invitation with all relevant information about the programme will be sent to you in August.

If there are additional introductory events in your study programme, you will receive a separate invitation for these.

During the introductory event you will receive your HSGcard (student ID). Only with the HSGcard can you use the sports hall and the copying and scanning stations on campus.

Login & Platforms

The email address you receive with your HSG user account is used to log in to the HSG platforms, Microsoft 365 and the campus WLAN (eduroam). You only need your HSG username to use the VPN client and a computer workstation on campus.

The login details and instructions for setting up your HSG account will be sent to your Compass mailbox.

You can use Compass to manage your main administrative matters (including semester enrolment and course selection) and to download your transcript of records.

You will also receive documents relevant to your studies, such as grade notifications and semester invoices, in your Compass mailbox if you have opted to receive them electronically.
