Regulations & legal basis

A summary of the most important legal principles and regulations governing the Assessment Year, as well as options for extension, can be found here.

This includes the study and examination regulations, supplementary implementation provisions, and instructions from the registrar. It also explains the provisions for passing and repeating the Assessment Year. You will also find information on how to extend the Assessment Year.

Passing and retaking

The Assessment Year is passed if the required 60 credits have been earned and the following additional criteria have been cumulatively met:

  • Overall grade point average of at least 4.00 (rounded to one hundredth)
  • Accounting exam passed
  • Max. 12 M-NCPs (minus grade credits)

In addition, the following applies:

  • Of the maximum 12 M-NCPs, no more than 4 M-NCPs may be in the context of the programme
  • First foreign language course completed

If the Assessment Year is not passed, all courses except the accounting exam must be repeated in a second attempt.

If the second attempt is not passed, it is no longer possible to continue studying in the same subject at the University of St.Gallen.

Regulations for the individual extension of the Assessment Year

Students with proven health issues or family commitments, as well as top athletes, can extend the Assessment Year on an individual basis. This enables them to spread out their exams and spend more time developing their specialist knowledge.

Provisional admission to the Bachelor's programme is possible if the Assessment Year is extended on an individual basis for any reason and no more than one Assessment Year examination is outstanding, provided that the accounting examination has been passed.

Important: We strongly recommend that students seek advice from the Dean's Advisory Office (assessmentunisg.ch) in advance.
