Admission to Business Education I

Additional qualification programme at Bachelor’s and Master’s degree levels,
Language of instruction is German.

Requirements

You are currently studying for a Bachelor's or a Master’s degree at the University of St.Gallen or you have just been admitted to a Master’s degree programme at the University of St.Gallen. (This is not true for the programmes BCS, MCS or JMM.)  

At the time of application, you have to demonstrate level C1 (CEFR) proficiency in the German language, which is used as the language of instruction. The University of St. Gallen accepts the following as proof:

  • German as native tongue (= language of instruction at school)
  • recognised Bachelor's degree programme completed in German
  • recognised language diploma, e.g. Goethe certificate C1

Additional programme requirements

If you are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a Master’s degree programme in economics at the University of St.Gallen, you will be admitted to Business Education I without having to meet any additional programme requirements.

If you are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a Master’s degree programme in law at the University of St.Gallen, you will have to take the following courses in order to be able to complete Business Education I:
4 ECTS Credits Strategic Management
4 ECTS Credits Leadership & Human Resource Management
4 ECTS Credits Accounting, Controlling, Auditing
4 ECTS Credits Corporate Finance
4 ECTS Credits Microeconomics II
4 ECTS Credits Macroeconomics II

Application

You can start your studies either in the spring or the autumn semester. Recommended entry is in autumn semester. Please apply through

If you were exmatriculated for more than 2 semesters, you have to apply online by paying the registration fee CHF 250.

For the application for admisison to Business Education I the same deadlines apply as for the chosen Master’s degree programme. When applying online, you can select the option “Wirtschaftspädagogik - Erste Stufe” in addition to the chosen Master’s degree programme.

Admission to Master degree programmes

Requirements

Your Master’s degree is considered consecutive if it builds on a successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in the same discipline. The total amount of credits required to complete both degrees must be at least 270 ECTS credits.

Your degree programme will be recognised if the following criteria are fulfilled:

  • Your degree was awarded by a university, which is recognised in the country where you attended the course.
  • You have completed all course work at a recognised or accredited university.
  • You have completed at least half of the course credits onsite at the university awarding the degree.
  • You fulfil the minimum requirements for admission to the Master's degree programme at your home university.

Information on the recognition of universities, university degrees as well as country-specific provisions

Application

The degree programme can start either in the spring or the autumn semester. Study start in autumn semester is recommended. The application is made online. The application fee is CHF 250.

Spring semester application period: 1 October – 30 November

To the Online-Application

Please have the following information and documents ready to upload:

  • Digital passport photo
  • Signed Enrolment Agreement
  • Passport or ID card and, if applicable, a Swiss (permanent) residence permit
  • Curriculum vitae - style template 
  • Evidence of linguistic proficiency in German
  • Higher education entrance qualification (Swiss Matura, foreign secondary school leaving certificate)
  • Degree documents, if available. Otherwise current official transcripts from each university attended (including exchange programmes and transcripts from unfinished degree programmes). The current transcript must show at least 120 ECTS credit points for courses taken so that we can process your application. In the case of double degree programmes or "joint degrees", transcripts from each attended university including explanatory notes on the course programme must be submitted.

If any of the documents are not issued in German, French, Italian or English, you must also submit a certified translation of the document in German or English. Please observe our guidelines "Certified documents and translations".

Only one file can be uploaded per bullet point. You can use online tools such as online2pdf.com to create PDF files or to combine several pages into one PDF file. Make sure the files you send to us are legible so that we can process your application without delay.

Swiss citizens need their Swiss Social Security number (AHV number) for the application. If you do not know your Social Security number, please order a duplicate of your insurance certificate from the Swiss Central Compensation Office in good time.
