Managing Climate Solutions (MaCS-HSG)

Upgrade your HSG degree & turn your career climate positive!

In the Managing Climate Solutions (MaCS-HSG) certificate, students develop entrepreneurial solutions to one of the most pressing societal challenges of our time: climate change.

Why MaCS?

The certificate programme MaCS-HSG addresses one of the biggest societal challenges of our time. Climate change is now widely acknowledged, but how can it be successfully addressed? This is the key question to be answered by future leaders in business and society. Through the additional qualification in Managing Climate Solutions, students will complement their core Masters programme at the University of St. Gallen with dedicated courses enabling them to understand the magnitude of the challenge, to explore the range of possible solutions, to craft behaviorally informed strategies, and to shape a positive future in a carbon-constrained world.

Key elements of the programme:

  • (a) Introductory course “Climate Solutions 101” in the fall semester (5 ECTS), combining a physical kick-off with blended learning elements and a compact course in the second week of the semester break
  • (b) Set of elective courses from various Masters programmes at the University of St. Gallen (16 ECTS)
  • (c) Mandatory course “Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Climate Solutions” in the spring semester (3 ECTS), which focusses on implementation of a specific climate solution. See our ongoing and past projects HERE

The design of the programme allows electives to be partially recognized for the student’s main Masters degree. The programme’s academic director, Prof. Dr. Rolf Wüstenhagen is a director of the Institute for Economy and the Environment (IWÖ-HSG) and has a long-standing experience in energy and climate-related research and teaching. An expert advisory board, including faculty from five different schools of the University of St. Gallen and a climate scientist from ETH Zurich, will contribute to teaching the MaCS curriculum and allow for interdisciplinary learning experience.
