New to HSG? 10 tips for your studies

Are you one of the more than 3,100 new Bachelor's and Master's students starting your studies at the University of St.Gallen (HSG)? We have put together 10 tips for starting your studies and your time at HSG.
[Translate to English:] Studierende auf dem HSG-Campus während der StartWoche 2025.
  • A good network is helpful not only in your job, but also at university. You can meet experienced students who can help you with questions about your studies and campus life in one of the more than 140 student clubs. These cover almost every topic, from business to sustainability to sports. You can also get involved with the student union. In addition, you can earn so-called campus credits for services you perform in the interest of the entire university.
  • HSG's social media channels are also a great way to network: the university regularly publishes news about campus life, HSG-related start-ups, research and teaching on LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube. You can also follow our news directly in our newsroom on the website
  • The online magazine HSG Focus is brand new. Here, experts with and without HSG connections classify current topics – the first issue from August 2025 is entitled ‘Crisis of the West’.
  • Students also have their own media outlets that report on current events and background information on campus: the magazine Prisma is published twice a semester in print and also has an online platform. And in the podcast ‘Campus Conversations – the HSG Student Podcast’, student reporters talk to interesting personalities associated with the HSG.
  • Especially at the beginning, it is not always easy to find your way around campus. That's why you should use the MazeMap (also available as an app): not only will you find the right building, but you will also see which room is located where in the building.
  • Download the SHSG Campus app – it provides information about news and events organised by the clubs and has a service area where you can find the canteen menu or the sports programme in one place. The app also has a study space finder, a room booking tool and provides information about important dates relating to your studies.
  • You can make your first contacts in the professional world in an uncomplicated way at the HSG Career Days. There are also specialised events such as Banking Days, Consulting Days, Asia Days and Private Equity and Venture Capital Days. The Career & Corporate Services at HSG also support you in career planning, preparing for job interviews and putting the finishing touches to your CV.
  • Need help? HSG offers a range of free support services for questions relating to study planning, examinations, written work, career planning or orientation on campus. Here you will also find an alphabetical overview of all contact points.
