ENGAGE.EU aims to empower a new generation of European citizens with a research-based approach to framing and solving current and future challenges. Through joint efforts and comprehensive interdisciplinary approaches rooted in business, economics, and social sciences, the alliance strives to drive innovation, promote sustainability, and, ultimately, have a positive impact on the world. This aligns seamlessly with the new vision of HSG: “Today's business students will become leaders in a world that faces major challenges such as climate change, social polarisation and geopolitical disruption,” says President Prof. Manuel Ammann. “By joining ENGAGE.EU, HSG is taking an important step towards realising its vision of educating students to become responsible, entrepreneurial leaders who develop innovative and sustainable solutions.” ENGAGE.EU also sees a perfect alignment of objectives, as confirmed by Secretary General Sabine Sainte-Rose: “We are delighted to welcome the University of St.Gallen officially as associated partner into our alliance. HSG’s strong commitment to responsible leadership and sustainability perfectly complements our mission. With HSG on board, ENGAGE.EU further expands its academic excellence and collective capacity to drive progress on pressing societal challenges and inspiring management education.”
Thanks to its membership in ENGAGE.EU, HSG can also participate in its flagship programme, the Joint Certificate in Global Sustainability Management (GSM). This programme, which is unique in Europe, combines the strengths of all participating universities and offers students an international and experience-based supplementary certificate. It is co-developed and co-taught by faculty of the ENGAGE.EU members – leading European universities in business, economics, and social sciences. In addition to traditional courses, the curriculum includes boot camps, team-building workshops, immersive learning, simulations and project labs. The programme emphasizes both traditional and innovative approaches to sustainability management and leadership in a global context in which grand challenges will change markets, regulations, threaten traditional business models but also open up new business potentials. “With the GSM, we enable our students to participate in a leading international joint programme that provides essential skills and experience which are in demand on the job market. We are excited to be part of this forward-looking collaboration between leading European universities,” said Prof. Judith Walls, President's Delegate for Responsibility and Sustainability. HSG Master's students will be able to apply for the certificate programme from the spring semester of 2026. Details on the programme will be available in early November.
