Board of Governors elects Cornel Loser as new Director of Administration

Cornel Loser is to become the new Director of Administration of the University of St.Gallen (HSG). He was selected by the Board of Governors following a multi-stage application process. This means that the St.Gallen native is returning to his alma mater in a key position.
Universitätsrat wählt Cornel Loser zum neuen Verwaltungsdirektor

Cornel Loser is CFO and Deputy CEO of St.Gallisch-Appenzellische Kraftwerke AG (SAK). In this role, he is directly responsible for finance, including asset management, purchasing/procurement, IT, energy management and human resources. “We are delighted to have secured an outstanding candidate for this key position, who also knows HSG very well,” said HSG President Prof. Manuel Ammann.

Deeply rooted in St.Gallen

Cornel Loser lives with his family in St.Gallen, where he attended business school and studied information management at HSG. After completing his studies, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Information Management (IWI-HSG) and held various specialist and management positions at different companies in the energy, finance and IT sectors. While working, he also completed an Executive Master's degree in European and International Business Law (also at HSG). He has been working as CFO at SAK since November 2017.

Return to alma mater

“I am delighted to have been selected Director of Administration of the University of St.Gallen. It is a great honour to return to the institution where I myself studied,” says Cornel Loser. “I am motivated to continue driving the positive development of the University and to work with the team to shape the future of our students and the entire University community.” Exciting tasks await the new Administrative Director, such as the realisation of the Campus Platztor and the temporary teaching facility for computer science courses (subject to the approval of the special credit by the Cantonal Council). He succeeds Dr Bruno Hensler, who is the new managing director of Einsiedeln Abbey. Once again, we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to Bruno Hensler, who has achieved a great deal in his almost nine years as Administrative Director and had to overcome major challenges such as the pandemic. Cornel Loser will take up his new position on 1 June 2026. Until then, Prof. Klaus Möller will serve as interim Director of Administration.
