Compared to the previous year, the total number of students has risen by 6.3 %, which is significantly above the long-term average growth rate. Looking at the assessment year, the first stage at HSG, a total of 2,376 people are studying. At Bachelor's level, the figure is 3,224. There are 3,788 students enrolled at the Master's level and 560 at the doctoral level. A further 44 students are taking additional courses. The proportion of women is 35.4 % (35.0 %). This development reflects a lively and engaged campus life.
Among the cantons of origin (place of residence when acquiring university entrance qualifications) of the students, Zurich is the most strongly represented with 1,562 (1,422). In second place is the canton of St.Gallen with 1,147 (1,099) students, followed by Thurgau and Vaud with 453 (439 and 372) each. There are 108 (111) students from Appenzell Ausserrhoden and 41 (40) from Appenzell Innerrhoden studying at HSG.
The largest group of foreign students (place of residence when acquiring university entrance qualification) comes from German-speaking countries: 1659 (1671) students come from Germany, 280 (292) from Austria and 81 (78) from Liechtenstein. Larger groups of students also come from Italy 220 (209), France 153 (126), China 78 (79), Singapore (59 (56)), the USA (52 (57)), Ukraine (41 (27)), India (38 (39)), the United Kingdom (35 (33)), Norway (29 (35)), Spain (29 (29)), Brazil (26 (30)) and Sweden (24 (27)). However, there are also numerous unusual destinations among the countries of origin. For example, there is currently one person each from Bhutan, Brunei, El Salvador, French Polynesia, Mauritius, Namibia, New Zealand, Oman, Tanzania and Uzbekistan studying in St.Gallen.
