ACA Prize in Financial Governance from the University of St.Gallen for Erwan Morellec

7 September 2021. The ACA Prize in Financial Governance will be awarded for the fifth time in 2021 to recognise outstanding academic achievements in the areas of accounting, controlling, corporate finance and auditing. With this award, the Institute of Accounting, Control and Auditing at the University of St.Gallen (ACA-HSG) makes a contribution towards highlighting important research results and their implementation in practice in the area of financial management. The prize is one of the highest recognitions to be awarded in the German-speaking world and it underscores the commitment of the ACA-HSG when it comes to providing and recognising excellence in financial management.

Erwan Morellec will receive the prize in recognition of his influential work in the field of theoretical corporate finance. He received his doctorate from HEC Paris in 1999 on the topic of corporate investment and financing decisions based on a real options perspective. Following this he was an assistant professor at the University of Rochester until 2003, when he was appointed full professor at HEC Lausanne. In 2006 he also received a Senior Research Chair at the renowned Swiss Finance Institute, which he still holds today. In 2008 Erwan Morellec then received a position as full professor at the EPFL in Lausanne.

The award winner is one of the most influential and internationally renowned researchers in the field of corporate finance. He has shaped this field since the 2000s, primarily with theoretical model analyses, and has significantly influenced an entire generation of researchers in theoretical corporate finance with his work. His focus is on research in relation to issues in the area of "optimal corporate finance". Erwan Morellec has also earned special academic recognition for his tireless efforts to build up the next generation of young academic talent in the PhD program in Finance at the Swiss Finance Institute. He is the head of the Swiss programme as well as the programme at the EPFL.

The ACA Prize in Financial Governance will be awarded as part of the ACA Symposium on 14/15 September, 2021, in Zurich.
