Appointment: Karolin Frankenberger

As of 1 April 2018, Prof. Dr. Karolin Frankenberger is a full professor of Executive Education with a specialisation in Strategic Management. In addition, she is also the Academic Director of the Executive MBA in the Executive School of Management, Technology and Law at the University of St.Gallen (ES-HSG).

1 April 2018. Prof. Dr. Karolin Frankenberger was born on 25 November 1976 and is a German citizen.

Frankenberger received her diploma in Business Administration in 2000 from the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. She earned her doctoral degree from the University of St.Gallen, graduating summa cum laude. The topic of her doctoral thesis was: "The role of the social context in strategy-making", supervised by Prof. Dr. Günter Müller-Stewens and Prof. Dr. Andreas Herrmann. During her doctoral studies, she was a visiting PhD student at Harvard Business School and at the University of Connecticut.

After her graduation, she changed to consulting and worked around the world for McKinsey & Company for seven years. In 2011, she returned to the Institute of Technology Management at the University of St.Gallen as a post-doc researcher. In 2014 she became an assistant professor at the same Institute. During this time, she was also head of the competence centre Business Model Innovation. Since 2016 she has been an assistant professor of Business Administration with a specialisation in Strategic Management at the University of Lucerne.

Research focus Business Model Innovation and Transformation

Prof. Frankenberger's research focus is the topic Business Model Innovation and the Transformation of Companies. She deals with the issue of how companies can develop new business models and implement them in order to remain successful in the market. She has published a lot on the topic in both academic and practically oriented areas. Of particular note is Karolin Frankenberger's article in the "Academy of Management Journal" as well as her book publication. Her book, "Developing Business Models: 55 Innovative Concepts with the St. Galler Business Model Navigator" has been translated into several languages and is considered a standard reference in business model innovation literature. She is also often active as a key note speaker on this topic at international conferences or in-house company management meetings.

Extensive Experience in Teaching and Executive Education

Karolin Frankenberger has extensive experience in teaching and executive education. She has been teaching innovation management for several years in the St.Gallen EMBA as well as in the International EMBA and the EMBE and consistently receives excellent teaching evaluations. Furthermore, she taught in the EMBA programme at the Universities of Zurich and Aachen. In order to satisfy the special requirements of executive education, she experimented with different forms of knowledge transfer. Thus, for example, she wrote four case studies and a business model card set for training purposes. In addition, she has experience with company-internal further education training courses. Karolin Frankenberger also teaches as part of the regular university activities in St.Gallen and Lucerne at the BA, MA and doctorate levels.
