Appointment: Prof. Dr. Sester Prof. Dr. Peter Sester has been Full Professor of International Business Law and of Law and Economics at the HSG Law School since 1 February 2014. The chair was established with the help of the Lemann Foundation. Peter Sester was born on 16 December 1967. He is a German national. Studies and academic career From 1988 to 1992, Peter Sester studied law at the University of Heidelberg, and from 1990 to 1996 economics at the Fern-Universität Hagen. In 1992, he passed the first Bar examination, and in 1996 the second. In between, he obtained his Doctor’s degree from the University of Heidelberg with a thesis on "Treupflichtverletzung bei Widerspruch und Zustimmungsverweigerung im Recht der Personenhandelsgesellschaft" [Misfeasance in cases of contradiction and refusal of consent in the law of business partnerships]. After his second Bar examination, he completed his studies of economics. In January 2001, he obtained his teaching qualification for civil law, commercial and company law, German and international business law, as well as comparative law from the University of Marburg for his habilitation thesis entitled "Projektfinanzierungsvereinbarungen als Gestaltungs- und Regulierungsaufgabe" [Project funding agreements as a configuration and regulation function]. After his appointment by the University of Karlsruhe in 2002, he wrote a doctoral thesis in economics at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, which he completed in 2009. The thesis was entitled "Institutionelle Reformen in heranreifenden Kapitalmärkten" [Institutional reforms in maturing capital markets]. From 2002 to 2012, Prof. Dr. Dr. Peter Sester was Professor of Civil Law, Commercial and Company Law, as well as Business Law, while at the same time being in charge of the Institute for Information and Business Law at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. From 1 January 2013, Peter Sester was Professor of Civil, Business and Fiscal Law at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, and from July 2013 he was also Director of the Institute of Law and Finance. Research focus on international business law Prof. Dr. Dr. Peter Sester’s research focuses on international business law, particularly funding and financial-market law and Brazilian commercial and business law. His research activities are characterised in equal measure by their diversity and by their special depth and practical relevance. He has published much-noticed monographs and commentaries, as well as contributions to leading journals. Prof. Dr. Dr. Peter Sester has a widespread international network and is therefore also regarded as an authority on business law outside the German-speaking academic area. At present, he is conducting research on the effects of European financial market law on third-party states (particularly Switzerland and Brazil), as well as legal and economic issues surrounding family offices. To date, he has been a visiting professor at six Latin American universities and was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge, the Institute for Advanced Legal Studies, Aix-Marseille Université and Université Montpellier. Prof. Dr. Dr. Peter Sester regularly presents his research results at academic conferences and is actively involved in academic discourse both with lectures and as an organiser of conferences and seminars. Teaching experience at the HSG Prof. Dr. Dr. Peter Sester has many years of teaching experience and will be teaching courses within the remit of his professorship at the HSG. In Autumn Semester 2011, he gave highly evaluated lectures in European Financial Market and Company Law. In Autumn Semester 2913, he taught compulsory courses in Law (MLaw) and International Law (MIL) at the Master’s Level in the context of another visiting professorship. His orientation and teaching activities will enable him to teach in all Law programmes at all Levels, both in German- and English-language courses. He is also in a position to offer courses in Portuguese, which will be important in view of cooperation with Brazilian universities. Practical experience Prof. Dr. Dr. Peter Sester has practical experience in his field. From 2002 to 2013, he worked as a legal advisor in the field of finance for a leading international law firm.
