Appointment: Prof. Dr. Leimeister

1 August 2014. Jan Marco Leimeister was born in Bietigheim-Bissingen on 7 April 1974. He is of German nationality.

Prof. Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister was a member of the research staff at the Chair of Information Management at the University of Hohenheim from January 2001 to September 2004 where he also received a doctorate with distinction. From October 2004 to July 2008, he was a research assistant at the Chair of Prof. Dr. H. Krcmar at Technische Universität München (TUM). Also in 2008 he submitted his habilitation thesis at TUM.

He held a Chair of Information Management at the University of Kassel since 2008. He reduced his workload at the University of Kassel to 50 per cent as from 1 August 2014, when he took over a substitute professorship of Information Management at the University of St.Gallen.

Prizes for research and publications

Prof. Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister is among the outstanding researchers in information management and Business Administration in the German-speaking area. According to the Handelsblatt, he was information management researcher under 40 with the most publications in 2012 and occupied 31st place among the business administration professors that conducted most research in the German-speaking area on the basis of their publications of the previous five years. These excellent positions are based on numerous international publications of the highest standard.

Jan Marco Leimeister was awarded several prizes for his publications and research achievements, among them the “Emerald Citations of Excellence Award” (2013), the “TUM Research Excellence Award” of the Peter Pribilla Foundation (2011), the “Wolfgang Heilmann Prize for the Humane Utilisation of Information Technology” (2005) and various best paper awards from international conferences.

Strong international network

Prof. Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister is part of a strong international network. Besides regular research stays at Columbia University, Harvard University and Berkeley, he is senior editor and associate editor of various reputable international journals.

The remit of Prof. Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister’s work at the University of St.Gallen will extend to courses at the Bachelor’s and Master’s Levels, particularly in the Master of Business Innovation, as well as in executive education. In addition, he will further develop the HSG teaching portfolio through new courses, for instance in the field of service engineering.

Research focus: IT-based innovations, digital business, digital transformation

Jan Marco Leimeister has been involved in computer-aided teaching (MOOC) for years. He conducts research into the theoretically and methodically founded design, introduction and management of IT-based innovations, services and IT-assisted forms of organisation as well as on the transformation processes that lead to a digitalised economy and society.
