Admission to the Master's programme in Business Innovation (MBI)

If you have one of the following degrees from a recognised university or complete one before the degree programme starts, then you can apply for the Master's programme:

• University Bachelor's degree with a major similar or at least partly similar to Business Administration
  For the classification of the similarity of a major, only curricular credits of a completed degree programme are taken into account. Excess credits (optional credits) are not considered. The compulsory achievements of the corresponding HSG Bachelor's degree programme serve as a basis for the classification. Depending on how relevant the major of your previous degree is to Business Administration, the extent of the additional requirements for the HSG Master's degree programme may vary. We differentiate between Bachelor's degrees with majors similar and partly similar to Business Administration.
  Similar major:
  90 ECTS credits in three of the four core subjects (Business Administration, Economics, Law and Mathematics/Statistics), including at least 45 ECTS credits in Business Administration.
  Partly similar major:
  40 ECTS credits in the core subjects Business Administration, Economics and Law, including at least 20 ECTS credits in Business Administration and additionally at least 6 ECTS credits in Mathematics/Statistics.
   
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from a recognised university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule) or university without research degree awarding powers
  with a minimum grade point average (unrounded) of 5.00 Swiss grading system on the diploma (German/Austria 2.00, Netherlands 7.5) and a maximum of 20 ECTS credits out of 180 ECTS credits from internship work.
  A degree in Business Informatics, Industrial Engineering, Business Psychology, Communication Sciences, Tourism, Hospitality Management etc. is not considered a Business Administration degree.
   
• Consecutive university Master's degree in another discipline
  Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes must have been completed in the same discipline (consecutively) and amount to least 270 ECTS credits overall.

Your degree programme will be recognised if, amongst other things, the following criteria are met:

• Your final degree certificate was awarded by a institution of higher education which is recognised in the country where you attended the course.
• You have completed at least 80% of your course work at a recognised or accredited institution of higher education.
• You have completed at least half of the course work on site at the institution of higher education awarding the degree.
• You fulfil the minimum requirements for admission to the Master's degree programme at your home institution of higher education.

If you do not have your final degree at the time of application, you must apply with a current transcript with all achievements listed. All credits specified in the current transcript will be considered.

Submission of a GMAT or GRE Score is optional for all applicants. If a GMAT or GRE score is not provided, the weighting of the applicant's average grade will be doubled to compensate. GMAT or GRE scores must be submitted with the application documents. It is not possible to submit them at a later date or to provide alternative evidence.

GMAT or GRE exams may be taken in person or online. Test results must not be older than five years. Upload your score report to your Online Application. You must also have your score sent to the University of St.Gallen by GMAC or ETS before the closing date for applications. (GMAT: University of St.Gallen, MA / MSc Master Level, GRE: 7202).  

When assessing GMAT results, the total score (no superscore) is taken into account, whereas when assessing GRE results, only the ‘Quantitative Reasoning’ section is taken into consideration. If you have taken the test several times, the test with the best result will be considered.

Commitments and activities outside of your studies, such as work experience, internships, exchange semesters or extracurricular and social activities are only considered if you furnish proof thereof. List all of these activities on the Online Application portal and on your curriculum vitae, and upload proof thereof.

The online exam, which can be taken from any location, is designed to assess suitability for the specific field of study and, above all, to measure competencies through ability modules drawn from psychological aptitude testing. It helps to promote diversity and equal opportunities.

The exam, which lasts a maximum of 90 minutes, takes place on one of two possible test days between February and April, depending on which admissions round you have applied for. It is conducted via live proctoring, which means that a supervisor monitors the exam digitally in real time via webcam, microphone and screen sharing. Applicants will receive their login details, a mock exam and details of the exam content in good time – approximately 10 days before the test – to help them prepare.

Further information will follow as soon as possible.

The mandatory, multi-day "MBI Integration Days" take place every year in early September (calendar week 37). They are designed to provide optimal preparation for the Master's programme in Business Innovation. You can start your Master's degree only once you have successfully completed the "MBI Integration Days".

All MBI students must complete the bachelor level course "Fundamentals and Methods of Computer Science for Business Studies" (8 ECTS credits) within one year. If you have already completed a similar course during your previous studies, this may be recognised and credited.

Please have the following information and documents ready to upload:

• Digital passport photo
• Signed Enrollment Agreement (University of St.Gallen)
• Valid passport or ID card and, if applicable, a Swiss (permanent) residence permit
• Curriculum vitae in English – style template
• Supporting documents for extracurricular activities
• GMAT or GRE test (official or unofficial score report)
• Higher education entrance qualification (Swiss Maturität, foreign secondary school leaving certificate)
• Degree documents (degree certificate, final academic transcript, diploma dupplement), if available. Otherwise current official transcripts from each university attended (including exchange programmes and transcripts from other degree programmes not (yet) completed). The current transcript must show at least 120 ECTS credits for courses taken so that we can process your application. In the case of double degree programmes or "joint degrees", transcripts from each attended university including explanatory notes on the course programme must be submitted.

If any of the documents are not issued in German, French, Italian or English, you must also submit a certified translation of the document in German or English. Please observe our guidelines regarding "documents to be submitted" and "translations" in the Directive on the Implementing provisions of the admission regulations.

Only one file can be uploaded per bullet point. You can use online tools such as online2pdf.com to create PDF files or to combine several pages into one PDF file. Make sure the files you send to us are legible so that we can process your application without delay.

Swiss citizens need their Swiss social insurance number (AHV number) for the application. If you do not know your insurance number, please order a duplicate of your insurance certificate from the Swiss Central Compensation Office in good time.

If you apply online before 31 January, you have the option to specify an alternative programme in your application. You may choose one of the following programmes: MiMM, MGM.

If your application is rejected during the initial selection process, it will be reviewed again. If all the formal entry requirements for the chosen alternative programme are met, the admissions process for that alternative programme will begin.

The programme sends you information relating to the programme-specific exam.

The Admissions Committee conducts the published admission rounds afterwards. All complete applications that have been submitted on time are assessed, and a decision is made on the admission.
