Urs Fueglistaller graduated in business and economics from the University of St.Gallen in 1987. Since that time, he has been involved with the Swiss Institute for SMEs and Entrepreneurship (KMU-HSG, then (1946 - 2001) «Swiss Institute for Commercial Economics»), first as project manager and later as head of the institute's practice area. Fueglistaller earned his doctoral degree at the TU Cottbus and habilitated at the HSG in 2001 on the topic of service competence in SMEs. In 2002, he became a full professor and has since been director of the KMU-HSG, which he has successfully led as a member of the board of directors for 20 years. He was also a member and president of the Scholarship and Loan Commission, a member of the Appeal Committee for ten years, deputy dean of the School of Management at the University of St.Gallen and co-director of a master's program in marketing at the HSG. He also holds the role of responsible lecturer for the isc team (St.Gallen Symposium). Since 2021, he has also served as vice president for «Institutes and Executive Education» at the University of St.Gallen and is thus responsible for that area of HSG activities that contributes the largest share to the HSG's self-financing level.   His main research interests are «Management and Leadership in SMEs» and «Service Excellence in SMEs», his most recent publications are dedicated to consistent customer orientation and the importance of aesthetics in corporate management – all with an SME focus.   Prof. Dr. Urs Fueglistaller is convinced that a connecting discourse between theory and practice is fruitful and meaningful. Thanks to his close-knit network of contacts, especially in the business community of Eastern Switzerland, he is known as the voice of the HSG for SMEs. He is also the founder and former host of the Swiss SME Day, an event that is popularly attended by well over 1,500 SME executives from the German speaking region each year. In his teaching at the HSG, he knows how to get students excited about the world of SMEs and the manifestations of entrepreneurship. In the executive education courses, his practical relevance and his commitment to SME are being highly appreciated.
