SEPS Excellence in Teaching Award Student organized award for outstanding teaching accomplishments The School of Economics and Political Science Excellence in Teaching Award is an annually awarded distinction by the student body for outstanding teaching accomplishments. Worthy of the award are the quality of the course design as well as teaching and learning materials, the creation of motivation and the relevance of the taught knowledge in regards to research and practical relevance. All students are able to nominate SEPS lecturers for the award by offering an explanation for their nomination. These explanations are anonymized forwarded to the lecturers as feedback. All explanations are also aggregated and they function as the base of a report. This review summarises those teaching qualities which are especially appreciated by students and therefore constitute an additional feedback by the student body to lecturers. Finally, based on this feedback the winner is determined and introduced with a citation to the members of the SEPS community. Awardee of the SEPS Excellence in Teaching Award in the academic year 2014/2015 Prof Simon Evenett's inclusive teaching style incorporates students' ideas, proposals and comments in developing the taught content, often times by using case examples. Furthermore his passionate teaching style and his use of current research and personal experience made the subjects come to live and increased the students intrinsic motivation. His grading design made use of decentral examinations and innovative examination formats such as voice-over-PowerPoint presentations. The decentral examinations required students to reflect on the learned knowledge and allowed them to focus on topics of interest.
