December in India HSG student Sophie Kwisda will be spending the Pre-Christmas season in India this year. She is currently studying at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. 7 December 2015. Of course there is no sign of Christmas in the streets of Calcutta in the eastern part of India. 30 degree Celcius, sun all day long and colleagues with shorts and flipflops walking around, does not incentivise to think about the cosy, thoughtful time in Switzerland. The only tradition I follow here in India is the one of the chocolate adventcalendar from my family, which looks quite lost next to papaya, watermelons and fresh coconuts. However, with the chocolate melting and mixing with the fruits it leaves me dreaming about the chocolate fondue back home. Festival of light A comparable festival to Christmas in India is Diwali – the festival of light. Diwali took place this year in mid of November with the celebration of the good defeating the evil and thus also the beginning of the new year.
