Crime scene "University of St.Gallen" at the 14th St.Gallen Museum Night

4 September 2018. The University of St.Gallen is more than a place of learning. The campus is host to many significant works of art by a wide variety of artists. These works of art are integrated in the architecture and everyday student life. Almost all works were specifically created for their individual positions by the artists rather than being placed there subsequently. This also fits this year's motto "Crime Scene Museum Night": the art works at the University are not exhibited in an obvious manner but must first be discovered by the onlooker.

Guided art tours on the campus

The student association proArte will draw visitors' attention to the art works in the HSG's Main and Library Buildings on various guided tours. The University's Main Building is regarded as a significant construction of the 1960s. Whereas in this building, art constitutes a counterpoint to the architecture, the works of art and the variety of architectural forms in the Library Building complement each other in a narrative way. Visitors to the Museum Night can expect works by artists from the surrealist movement, paintings and sculptures by representatives of Neo-Expressionism and the Italian Transavanguardia, as well as contemporary works of art. The guided art tours will start at between 5.00, 6.00, 7.00 and 8.00 p.m. and will take 45 minutes each.

Children as sleuths looking for clues
Children can expect a varied programme: they can play detectives and look for clues in and around the Library. They can participate in this sleuthing game in small groups on the hour between 5.00 and 7.00 p.m. The programme will take between 45 and 60 minutes. Children will be accompanied by trained helpers. Parents may also join in on request. Registration will not be required.

Discovering works of art with the art app

With the newly launched art app Art@HSG, guests will be able to look for "evidence" in the shape of Alberto Giacometti's sculpture and Joan Miró's frieze in the Main Building, discover Hans Arp's tree of bowls or admire François Stahly's fountain tree. Tablets for visitors' individual journeys of discovery will be made available on the Museum Night.

St.Gallen Museum Night

This year's St.Gallen Museum Night under the motto "Crime Scene Museum Night" will take place on 8 September from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. 33 museums and galleries in and around St.Gallen will participate in it, and varied programmes await all their visitors. A ticket for the Museum Night costs CHF 20.00 and will enable holders to be admitted to all the museums and galleries involved. Tickets can be purchased at the advance booking offices or, during the Museum Night, at the University. For children and young people up to 16 years of age, admission will be free.

The tickets for the Museum Night will entitle holders to use the shuttle bus and the circular-route bus within the entire Ostwind Zone 210 (including Nachtwind surcharge). During the Museum Night, the HSG can be reached by its own shuttle bus and by the No. 5 bus (Rotmonten). The free shuttle bus will run between the Bus Station North and the campus every half hour between 6 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.
