“When two people have a row”

19 February 2013. Four HSG professors will talk about their research in four individual lectures – ludically, on the basis of everyday situations and examples from the children’s world. The unrelated lectures from the disciplines of law, advertising, technology and culture will enable children to follow them even if they are only present for one afternoon. Of course, whole classes are also welcome to breathe university air on four afternoons.

Four individual lectures
The Children’s University will start on 27 February with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Ehrenzeller. The Professor of Public Law will answer the question, “When two people have a row – why do we need a judge?” On 6 March, Prof. Dr. Torsten Tomczak, Professor of Management, will show the children “How advertising works”. On the third afternoon, on 13 March, children will be able to discover exactly what a computer consists of. Prof Dr. Elgar Fleisch, Professor of Information and Technology Management, will explain “How a computer works”. Prof. Dr. Daria Berg, Professor of Chinese Culture and Society, will bring the Children’s University to an end on 20 March with the topic of “Playing and learning in China”.

HSG ID card for every child
The Children’s University aims to acquaint the youngest HSG audience with socially relevant topics above and beyond the subject material they learn at school. The children are intended to be familiarised with an institution of higher education regardless of whether they will want to go to university later. The Children’s University is part of the University of St.Gallen’s public programme; admission is free. However, advance registration is required. Every child will receive an HSG ID card. At the end of the lecture course, the pupils who have attended all the lectures will receive a participation certificate.
