25 June 2012. In the context of the public lecture programme, Sandra Hughes will be reading from her latest book.

The story behind "Zimmer 307"
Felicitas is hoping for a better world when she commits suicide at 34, a short time after Domenico, her lover, has left her. But the longed-for paradise fails to materialise. She ends up in a tough working world where only basket-weaving and the thoughts of the bereaved count. She does not fulfil the requirements of either and thus starts to tackle her new life. Single-mindedly, she works her way to the top and sets up a men’s department – with a place for Domenico.

Zimmer 307 is a novel about an intelligent, attractive woman who succumbs to a man’s (seductive) power and considers that the only way to counter it is self-destruction or violent revenge.

Sandra Hughes’s third novel
Sandra Hughes was born in 1966 and grew up in Lucerne. She studied art at the University of Basel, worked in the Kunsthaus Zurich and Kunsthaus Zug galleries, and has worked with the Basel Museum Services ever since 1998. "Zimmer 307" is her third novel (2006: "Lee Gustavo", 2009: "Maus im Kopf"). Sandra Hughes lives in Allschwil near Basel with her husband and son.

Free admission
The reading is part of the series of events "Das andere Buch an der Uni". With this series, the University of St.Gallen invites the general public to readings twice a year. Admission is free of charge.
