HSG celebrates its Dies academicus

On Saturday, 21 May 2011, numerous guests from academia, trade and industry, and politics celebrated the traditional Dies academicus at the University of St.Gallen.

21 May 2011. This year’s guest region was the Werdenberg region. The entrepreneur Dr. Henri B. Meier was appointed Honorary Senator of the University of St.Gallen.

The following personalities were awarded an honorary doctorate: Avv Marianne Galli-Widmer, Mediator; Dr. Martin Meyer, Arts Section Editor of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung; Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary General of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN); Prof. Lars-Hendrik Röller, Ph.D., Chief Competition Economist of the European Commission; Prof. Darell Duffie, Ph.D., Stanford University, USA; and Prof. Boas Shamir, Ph.D., Hebrew University, Israel.

The Latsis Prize of Geneva’s Fondation Latsis was awarded to Prof. Conny Wunsch, Ph.D. In his ceremonial address, President Thomas Bieger spoke about the challenges of globalisation at universities.
