Focus on Latin America

This year’s Latin American Day at the HSG will take place on 28 April 2011. For one day, the focus will be on Latin American issues with lectures, workshops and a panel discussion.

21 April 2011. The Latin American Day is an international conference which is organised annually at the HSG by the student organisation AIESEC. This year, the day will be devoted to political and economic lectures, debates and workshops under the motto of “Opportunities for the coming decade”. Participants will have the opportunity to acquire a more profound understanding of the special aspects of the Latin American market in discussions with experts from politics, trade and industry, the media and academia.

Colombia’s ambassadress to open the event

The event will take place on Thursday, 28 April 2011. In the morning, Colombia’s ambassadress in Berne Claudia Turbay Quintero, will give an opening address, and Hildegard Stausberg, a journalist working for the German daily newspaper, Die Welt, will speak about the opportunities and challenges in Latin America.

In the afternoon, participants will be able to choose from among three workshops:

• Case Study Workshop: CEMEX’s International Expansion, by Henning Höber (HSG)

• Private Banking in Brazil , by Giovanni Vergani (Credit Suisse)

• Strategic Vision for a Sustainable Business in Latin America - On the example of Kuehne + Nagel, by Edgar Uribe (Kuehne + Nagel)

Latin America’s limitless growth?
After the workshops, a panel will discuss “The Latin American decade: growth without limits?” The day will be rounded off with a Latin American aperitif!

Students from all disciplines are invited to participate in the 2011 Latin American Day. However, the number of participants will be limited. Prospective participants can register at www.aiesec.ch/st-gallen/lad according to the “first-come, first-served” principle.
