Insight into a stage director’s work

On four evenings this autumn, the public lecture programme of the University of St.Gallen (HSG) will provide an opportunity to have a close look at the work of a stage director.

12 October 2010. The cast of St.Gallen’s Municipal Theatre will make its first appearance in the renovated Lokremise St.Gallen on Friday, 12 November 2010, with Ödön von Horvath’s Der jüngste Tag. After an intensive period of preparation in which the concept, the version of the play, the stage area and the costumes were determined, the six-week rehearsal period will be concerned with the implementation and further development of the play together with the actors.

Discussions with the stage director
To provide an insight into this creative process, the public programme of the HSG has scheduled four Tuesday evening dates which first enable people to attend rehearsals for an hour and subsequently to discuss the director’s backgrounds and motivations with the director in person. Regular attendance at rehearsals will also enable the audience to experience the development of a performance. The unusual approach to this many-layered subject matter is intended to provide a more insightful access than theoretical presentations would be able to offer.

On four Tuesday evenings
The series entitled Einblick in die Arbeit des Theaterregisseurs will start on Tuesday, 19 October 2010, at 8 p.m. in the Lokremise St.Gallen and will continue on the following three Tuesday evenings at the same time.
