1 June 2010. On the occasion of the two-day conference on Thurday and Friday, 10 and 11 June 2010, new research findings surrounding the issue of old-age provision will be discussed in detail and critically reviewed.

The International Pension Workshop in the Holiday Inn Messe in Zurich, in which experts from academia and practical working life will participate, will be focusing on two specific questions: 1. Should life insurers continue to offer second-pillar pensions and in doing so possibly even replace the autonomous pension schemes? 2. Should private individuals have the opportunity to choose their pension scheme freely?

One of the objectives of the conference is the derivation of concrete recommendations for economic and social policy from scientific findings. For this purpose, a public panel discussion on “The future of professional pensions” will take place to conclude the first day of the Workshop (Thursday, 10 June, 5 p.m.).

The sustainable stability of the second pillar is also crucially contingent on the mastery of the financial crisis. Several conference workshops will therefore deal with the financial markets from the perspective of optimal old-age provision. The public plenary lecture by ETH Professor Paul Embrechts (Thursday, 10 June, 3.15 p.m.) is also connected with this issue.
