15 February 2010. The public lecture courses of the University of St.Gallen (HSG) will start on 22 February 2010. There is a particular wealth of regional topics this spring: from the textile industry to municipal and regional history, from insights into belcanto by the Opera Director to a series entitled “The HSG in the Region” in Romanshorn. The Children’s University will also take place this spring, this year for the first time with four lectures on unrelated topics.

"Image and Copy"
In the course of the lecture series on “The HSG and the Region”, four HSG faculty from the fields of German Studies, Law, Business Administration and Economics will introduce the pupils of the Romanshorn Cantonal School and the general public to their research on the topic of “Image and Copy”. The lectures will focus on automotive design, ethical considerations concerning the image of the science of the economy, protection of the personality vs. artistic autonomy, as well as images in literary stories.

From regional to global issues
Besides a series of lectures on St.Gallen’s textile industry with its virtuoso embroidery, the Opera Director of St.Gallen’s Municipal Theater will be giving insights into belcanto, a special vocal style which is experiencing a renaissance at present. Moreover, the program includes municipal and regional history, enlarged upon and illustrated by city walks that teach history with reference to historic buildings.
