Appointment: Tereza Tykvová

Prof. Dr. Tereza Tykvová has been a full professor of finance with a focus on private markets and alternative investments at the University of St.Gallen since 1 February 2020.

1 February 2020. Born on 6 December 1973, Prof. Dr. Tereza Tykvová, is a German and Czech citizen.

She completed her Master's degree in Economic Sciences (Mgr.) at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, in 1997 and her Master's degree in Economic Sciences (ME) at Saarland University in Germany in 1999. Subsequently, in 2004, she obtained a doctorate in Economic Science at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. The title of her dissertation is "Finanzierung, Börsengang und Performance mit unterschiedlichen Venture-Capital-Gebern" (Financing, IPO and performance with different venture capitalists). During her doctoral studies she worked as a Research Assistant at the Department of International Financial Markets and Financial Management at the Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim, Germany. From 2007 to 2012, she worked as a senior researcher at this institute. From October 2011 to March 2012, she was a visiting lecturer for Corporate Finance at the University of Hohenheim, Germany, and was appointed as Chair of Corporate Finance by this university in April 2012.

Research on Entrepreneurial Finance and Corporate Finance

Prof. Dr. Tereza Tykvová's research focuses on entrepreneurial finance, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings. Her publications are not only of high practical relevance, but are regularly published in renowned journals (including Financial Times Top-50 Journals). In the 2012 "Handelsblatt Betriebswirte Ranking", she was listed among the top 100 researchers under 40 years of age in German-speaking countries.

Between 2008 and 2011, she was head of the work package "Patterns of integration of the European VC/PE sector and internationalisation of VC/PE investors" in the international VICO project on entrepreneurial finance in Europe which was funded by the EU in FP7 (funding amount approx. EUR 1.5 million). Scientists from Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Finland, Belgium and Italy have collaborated on this project and have jointly compiled a database for venture capital financing in Europe, which has received wide recognition in the scientific community and has been used in numerous publications.

Prof. Dr. Tereza Tykvová headed a DAAD-funded project from 2015-2018 to establish a thematic network on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Financing (INEF), involving six different universities from Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, China, and the USA (funding amount approx. EUR 710 thousand). This project developed (since January 2019) into a research focus of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hohenheim, which she led. She has also been involved in the DAAD follow-up project since 2019 (funding approx. EUR 230,000).

She played a major role in setting up the Hohenheim Data Laboratory (DALAHO), where she acquired the funds for start-up financing (approx. EUR 395,000) from the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg, Germany (MWK). She has been active on the advisory board of the DaLaHo since its foundation.

She was on the Scientific Board at several national and international conferences. In 2017, she was Conference Chair at the Academy of Entrepreneurial Finance European Meeting in Stuttgart, Germany.

Profound teaching experience in various subject areas

As a full professor, Prof. Dr. Tereza Tykvová brings with her profound teaching experience in various subject areas. She has taught corporate finance, entrepreneurial finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and empirical research methods. Her course evaluations are excellent and she has received several awards for her teaching. She teaches at all academic levels. The methodological training of students is of central importance to her, as she sees this as the foundation of good research.

Prof. Tykvová was also the initiator of the doctoral study course in Management and Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hohenheim and has been its director since its launch in 2015.

Private Markets Research Centre

This is a new appointment to the full professorship in Finance. The main priority and focus of Prof. Dr. Tereza Tykvová is to establish a research centre in the field of private markets and to represent this field in teaching.
