Honorary Doctorate for Monika Bütler

Monika Bütler has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lucerne. She is a Full Professor of Economics at the University of St.Gallen.

9 November 2018. With its honorary doctorate, the economics faculty of the University of Lucerne is honouring Monika Bütler's internationally recognised work in the field of economic and social policy. Her commitment ranges from academic research at the highest level and public policy statements to the assumption of corporate responsibility. Since the beginning of her academic career, she has convincingly pursued dialogue in both theoretical and practical areas, thereby expressing her deep conviction that a functioning society needs broad-based and constructive dialogue.

Monika Bütler is rightly regarded as one of the most influential economists in Switzerland, whose expertise is always in demand in important socio-political debates. As a pioneer in the fields of demography and aging, she has given valuable impetus to policy and shaped public discourse.
