Appointment: Vangelis Souitaris

Professor Vangelis Souitaris has been appointed Full Professor for Entrepreneurship and Innovation with effect from 1 February 2018.

1 February 2018. Vangelis Souitaris was born on 25 March 1972. He has dual Greek and British citizenship.

In the years 1989 to 1994, Professor Vangelis Souitaris completed a BSc in Chemical Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and from 1994 to 1995 an MBA at the University of Wales in Cardiff. Between 1995 and 1998, he studied at the University of Bradford, where he gained his doctorate. The title of his doctoral thesis was "Determinants of technological innovation in the Greek manufacturing industry".

Between 1998 and 2003, he was an assistant professor in Entrepreneurship at Imperial College London. In 2004, he moved to Cass Business School, City University of London, where he became the youngest full professor in 2006 at the age of 34. Alongside this, he has been visiting professor at the International Hellenic University in Thessaloniki since 2009 and at the LUISS University in Rome since 2014.

Research in the field of entrepreneurship

Prof. Vangelis Souitaris' research is focused primarily on the following three areas: Entrepreneurial finance (corporate venture capital, entrepreneurial IPOs) academic and technological entrepreneurship (students and faculty as entrepreneurs) and behavioural aspects of entrepreneurship (inspiration, polychronicity, halo effects and escalation of commitment). He uses multiple methods, including archival data, cases, experiments and surveys. On the methodological side, his use of experiments represents a valuable addition to the methodological repertoire of the existing HSG faculty in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation. He has been able to publish the results of his research multiple times in renowned journals such as the "Academy of Management Journal", the "Strategic Management Journal" and the "Journal of Business Venturing".

Accolades for outstanding teaching

At Cass Business School, Vangelis Souitaris built up a Centre for Entrepreneurship, which offers courses in the field of entrepreneurship at all levels of study. The activities of this centre were recognised by the Financial Times as one of the world's leading entrepreneurship programmes in 2017. In his courses, he makes use of an innovative mixture of theory, theory-driven practice frameworks, case studies and simulations. Students rate his courses as excellent, and Prof. Vangelis Souitaris has won multiple teaching awards.
