2014 Kausch Prize for Volkart

Prof. em. Dr. Rudolf Volkart, Langnau am Albis, will be awarded the 2014 Dr Kausch Prize at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) for the promotion of research and practice in the field of financial and operational accounting.

8 January 2015. Rudolf Volkart will receive the prize for his contributions to the theory and practice of accounting and corporate finance.

The new prize winner, who was born in 1946, obtained his Doctor's degree from the University of Zurich in 1974. He habilitated in Business Administration at the same university in 1982. Rudolf Volkart held the Chair of Business Administration with special focus on corporate finance, certain areas of banking, as well as corporate taxation and special aspects of financial accounting, at the University of Zurich for 25 years.

In his capacity as the Director (1997-2006) and Deputy Director (1983-1997) of the Swiss Banking Institute, today’s Department of Banking and Finance, he realised its extension into a notable institute of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Zurich. In addition, he established the major of Banking and Finance and made a substantial contribution towards the institute achieving a top-class performance – also at an international level – in the field of e-learning. Since his retirement in 2008, Volkart has worked in the field of financial consultancy and sat on boards of directors and trustees.

The Dr Kausch Prize has been awarded annually since 1984. The public award ceremony will take place at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) on 26 February 2015.
