Appointment: Prof. Dr. Königer Prof. Dr. Winfried Königer has been Full Professor of Economics at the Swiss Institute for Empirical Economic Research at the HSG, where he also holds the post of Director, since 1 August 2013. Winfried Königer was born on 10 December 1973. He is a German national. Prof. Dr. Königer completed his studies in economics at the Universities of Bonn and Berkeley and completed them in 1997. He then started his doctoral studies at the European University Institute. His doctoral thesis is entitled Essay on Insurance, Institutions and Aggregate Labor Markets. "Labor Markets and Institutions" Between 2001 and 2007, Dr. Winfried Königer worked at the renowned research institute IZA in Bonn, where he was responsible for the "Labor Markets and Institutions" programme from 2004. In 2007, Dr. Winfried Königer habilitated at the University of Bonn with a thesis on the Dynamic Models of Labor and Credit Markets. He then moved on to Queen Mary, University of London, where he first worked as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer and has been an Associate Professor since 2009. Macroeconomic issues Prof. Dr. Winfried Königer’s research focuses on macroeconomic issues in consumer, finance and labour markets. His research questions evince an interest in issues of economic policy and have many links to finance (particularly his more recent papers on consumer finance) but also to law and economics (regulatory questions in the labour and credit markets). High degree of political relevance His research activities are characterised by a high degree of political relevance and a wide variety of applied models and methods. He has an excellent publication record with contributions to leading journals in the field of economics and law and economics. Successor to Prof. Dr. Manfred Gärtner Prof. Dr. Winfried Königer has a great deal of teaching experience in the fields of macroeconomics and the labour market. He will teach macroeconomic courses at all levels. Above and beyond this, he will offer courses at the Doctoral Level (Ph.D. in Economics and Finance), as well as in his fields of research. Prof. Dr. Winfried Königer succeeds Prof. Dr. Manfred Gärtner, who will retire end of Spring Semester 2014.
