Appointment: Prof. Dr. Peter Hettich Prof. Dr. Peter Hettich has been Full Professor of Public Law at the Law School (LS-HSG) since 1 August 2013. Prof. Dr. Peter Hettich is affiliated to the Research Institute for Information Law (FIR-HSG), where he also holds the post of a Director. Peter Hettich was born on 9 October 1975. He is a Swiss national. He read law with a special focus on corporate and finance law, construction, planning and environment law, and in comparative public law at the University of St.Gallen. He concluded his studies in 1999. Rudolf Mäder Prize for the best Doctor’s degree He obtained his Doctor’s degree from the University of St.Gallen in 2003. His thesis was entitled "Wirksamer Wettbewerb – Theoretisches Konzept und Praxis". He was awarded the Rudolf Mäder Prize for the best Doctor’s degree in Law and Political Science. In August 2004, Prof. Dr. Hettich was admitted to the Bar of the Canton of Zurich. In 2007, he accepted the post of an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) at the University of St.Gallen. Visiting Scholar at the Columbia Law School From April to August 2005 and from January to September 2006, Prof. Dr. Hettich was a Visiting Scholar at the Columbia Law School, New York, where he read for the degree of an LL.M. from September 2005 to May 2006; these studies were partially funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. He obtained his LL.M. as a James Kent Scholar with the highest distinction. Research Assistant at the chair of Prof. Dr. Vallender From March 1998 to December 2001, Prof. Dr. Peter Hettich worked as a research assistant at the chair of Prof. Dr. Klaus A. Vallender for Public Law with a special focus on Business, Environment and Tax Law. Since 2002, he has worked as a consultant in the Zurich law firm "Vischer Rechtsanwälte und Notare", where he specialises in economic regulations and competition law. Research foci Prof. Dr. Peter Hettich’s research foci are in the field of Swiss and European public business law. Besides his thesis, a prominent landmark in his research is his co-authorship of the 4th edition of the standard work on "Wirtschaftsfreiheit und begrenzte Staatsverwaltung" with Prof. Dr. Klaus A. Vallender and Prof. Dr. Jens. Integration of economic perspectives In addition, he has published German and English papers about regulation, tendering procedures, tax and levy law and legislation on competition, some of them in peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Dr. Peter Hettich’s publications are characterised by an elaborate juridical methodology, which far exceeds the usual interpretation canon, and particularly also involves comparative law, and by a reflected integration of economic policy perspectives, such as the economics of regulation. His habilitation thesis on Kooperative Risikosteuerung will appear later this year. Already strongly involved in teaching The significance of his research is not least underlined by numerous presentations at congresses and conferences. Prof. Dr. Peter Hettich is already strongly involved in the teaching of the Law School. During his time as assistant professor at the University of St.Gallen, he gave the following lectures: "Public Law: Business Law Orientation", "Public Business Law, Environment Law, Construction and Planning Law", "Interdisciplinary Competition Law", "Integration Seminar: Law and the Economy". At the University of Basel, Peter Hettich teaches constitutional business law and administrative business law.
