Appointment of Prof. Guido Cozzi

Prof. Guido Cozzi, Ph.D., has been Full Professor of Macroeconomics at the HSG’s School of Economics and Political Science since 1 October 2012.

Guido Cozzi was born on 26 September 1964. He is an Italian national.

Prof. Guido Cozzi, Ph.D., obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from New York University in 2000. Thereafter, he held posts at Cornell University and at Sapienza University of Rome where, after the completion of his Ph.D. studies, he worked as an Associate Professor until 2004.

Professor of Economics

Subsequently, he accepted a full professorship at the University of Macerata, where he worked until 2009. From 2007 to 2009, Prof. Guido Cozzi, Ph.D., occupied a chair at Durham University und was Deputy Head of the Department of Economics of the Durham Business School.

Research foci
Prof. Guido Cozzi, Ph.D., primarily conducts research into the fields of Economic Growth, Innovation, Intellectual Property Rights, and Political Economy. His research activities are characterised by their broad base and multi-faceted nature. Thus, his research also touches on issues of fairness and cultural preferences. He has an outstanding publication record with numerous contributions to leading journals such as the “Journal of Political Economy”, the “Economics Journal” and the “Journal of Economic Theory”. Prof. Guido Cozzi, Ph.D., is also a peer reviewer for numerous journals.

International network
Prof. Guido Cozzi, Ph.D., is part of a very good international network. Besides research stays at the Universities of Fudan, Kyoto, Hitotsubashi, Tilburg and Louvain la Neuve, he regularly presents his work at a wide variety of universities and conferences worldwide and is actively involved in the scientific discourse.

Courses in the Assessment Year and at the Master’s and Ph.D. Levels
Prof. Guido Cozzi, Ph.D., has been teaching for many years and is greatly experienced in this field. He has already taught numerous courses at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Levels. Besides basic courses in macro- and microeconomics, as well as applied econometrics, he has also taught courses in Economics of Information, Economics of Innovation and Growth, and Economics for Business und Growth Theory.

Prof. Guido Cozzi, Ph.D., will succeed Prof. Dr. Uwe Sunde and assume the teaching obligations of his professorship at the HSG at all levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Levels). In particular, he will teach the course “Economics B” in the English-language track of the new Assessment Year. Together with Prof. Dr. Monika Bütler, he is also responsible for the organisation of this course. In addition, he will teach the English-language compulsory courses in macroeconomics at the Master’s Level.
