Appointment: Roland Füss Prof. Dr. Roland Füss has been Full Professor of Real Estate Finance at the HSG’s School of Finance and a Director of the Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance (s/bf-HSG) since 1 August 2012. Prof. Dr. Roland Füss was born in Sigmaringen (Germany) on 3 November 1966. He is a German national. Studies in economics He completed his studies in economics at the University of Freiburg in 1999. From 2000 to 2003, he was a member of the research staff at the Chair of Empirical Economic Research and Econometrics at the University of Freiburg. In 2003, he was awarded the degree of a Dr. rer. pol. with the distinction of summa cum laude. His doctoral thesis was entitled Emerging Markets im internationalen Portfoliomanagement. Habilitand at the University of Freiburg After he had obtained his Doctor’s degree, Roland Füss worked on his habilitation thesis at the Chair of Banking and Finance and at the Chair of Empirical Economic Research and Econometrics at the University of Freiburg. In 2007, he submitted his thesis on Essays on Alternative Investments and the Political Economy of Stock Markets and was awarded the venia legendi for Management and Econometrics. Before being appointed to a professorship at the University of St.Gallen, Dr. Füss was Professor of Finance at the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he occupied the Chair of Asset Management. Since 2010, he has also been International Professor of Financial Econometrics (part-time) at Glasgow Caledonian University. In addition, Dr. Füss is a research associate at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim. Research foci Prof. Dr. Roland Füss’s research mainly focuses on real estate funding, securitisation and economics, as well as risk management and applied financial market econometrics. His current research projects are concerned with the price discovery process of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), the causes of risk spill-overs between REITs, the risk decompositions of securitised real estate investments, as well as the spatial and temporal distribution of real estate price developments. He publishes his work in peer-reviewed academic journals such as Real Estate Economics, the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking. Furthermore, Professor Füss is a peer reviewer for various academic journals, including Empirical Economics, the Financial Review, the Journal of International Money and Finance and Real Estate Economics, as well as a member of the editorial boards of various journal, the Journal of Financial Perspectives being a case in point. Teaching experience In his capacity as Professor of Asset Management at the EBS Business School in Wiesbaden, Roland Füss taught at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Levels. At the University of St.Gallen, he will mainly offer lectures and research seminars on “Real Estate Finance and Investments, Empirical Real Estate Finance and Real Estate Economics” in the Management major and in the MBF. He will also contribute to various topics in the executive education programmes offered by the Swiss Institute for Banking and Finance (sb/f-HSG). At the sb/f-HSG, Prof. Dr. Roland Füss will occupy the position of a director.
