Honorary doctorate for Kirchgässner

The University of Fribourg has awarded an honorary doctorate to Prof. Dr. Gebhard Kirchgässner for being one of the most highly profiled economists in Switzerland.

17 November 2011. Gebhard Kirchgässner was honoured at the 2011 Dies Academicus of the University of Fribourg. He received the degree of an honorary doctor from the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences.

New political economics, applied econometrics

Prof. Dr. Kirchgässner has been a Full Professor of Economics and Econometrics and Director of the Swiss Institute for International Economics and Applied Economic Research (SIAW-HSG) at the University of St.Gallen since 1992. His main fields of research include new political economics and applied econometrics. He also focuses on economic policy, energy and environmental economics, as well as on the methodological foundations of the economic and social sciences.

One of the most highly profiled economists
The official eulogy of the University of Fribourg also says: “Professor Kirchgässner is among the most highly profiled and most successful economists in Switzerland, which is reflected in his extensive list of publications.” His major works include "Homo Oeconomicus" (1991, 2nd ed. 2000) and "Demokratische Wirtschaftspolitik: Theorie und Anwendung" (1994, together with Bruno Frey).

Gebhard Kirchgässner is a Research Fellow of the CREMA Center for Research in Economics, Management and the Arts and acting President of the Swiss Society of Economics and Statistics (SGVS).
