Appointment: Reto Föllmi Prof. Dr. Reto Föllmi has been Full Professor of International Economic Affairs at the School of Economics and Political Science since 1 February 2011. Reto Föllmi was born on 5 December 1975. He is a Swiss national. Reto Föllmi started his studies in Economics at the University of Zurich and obtained his licentiate’s degree in 2000. From 2000 to 2001, be attended the Swiss Program for Graduate Students in Economics in Gerzensee. In 2003, he obtained his doctor’s degree from the University of Zurich. The topic of his thesis was Consumption Structure and Macroeconomics. Research period at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) During his doctoral studies, Reto Föllmi worked as a member of the research staff and as a teaching assistant at the Institute of Empirical Economics Research at the Chair of Macroeconomics. After he had been awarded his doctor’s degree, Dr. Reto Föllmi worked as a senior assistant at the same Institute. From 2004 to 2005, Dr. Föllmi spent a research period at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Föllmi has been Professor of Macroeconomics at the University of Berne since 2007. Prof. Dr. Reto Föllmi is a member of the Committee for Macroeconomics of the Verein für Sozialpolitik, Research Affiliate at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and a member of the Board of Trustees of the World Trade Institute in Berne. Several awards Prof. Dr. Föllmi has received several awards, among them the annual prize for the best doctoral thesis of the University of Zurich in 2004 and the IEW Prize for the best publication by a “young economist” in November 2007. Prof. Dr. Reto Föllmi has had publications in numerous journals, among them the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, the Journal of International Economics, the Journal of Monetary Economics and the Review of Economic Studies. He co-authored the book, Income Distribution in Macroeconomic Models, which was published by Princeton University Press. In addition, he has also had articles published in the daily media, particularly on issues of economic policy. Since 2001, he has given numerous presentations at specialist meetings and conferences, among them the conferences of the Verein für Sozialpolitik and the Swiss Society for Economics and Statistics. Research focus Prof. Dr. Reto Föllmi’s research interest focuses on macroeconomics, international trade, growth and industrial organisation. In particular, he conducts research in the field of trade policy and income equalities. Prof. Dr. Reto Föllmi has been involved in teaching since 1998 and has teaching experience in a variety of fields. In Berne, for example, he is responsible for the Macroeconomics I courses at the Bachelor’s Level.
