Distinction for research and teaching in the field of insurance economics

For the first time ever, the International Insurance Society has listed 20 universities worldwide at which outstanding research and teaching are conducted in the fields of risk management and insurance economics. These Global Centers of Insurance Excellence also include the University of St.Gallen with its Institute of Insurance Economics (I.VW-HSG).

19 July 2017. The 20 universities were examined against criteria such as courses offered to students, research achievements by academic personnel and graduates' employability. Ultimately, the evaluation committee of the International Insurance Society (IIS) decided to place 10 universities from seven countries on the first list of Global Centers of Insurance Excellence (GCIE). The HSG is the only university from Switzerland.

"We’re extremely pleased with this distinction as a Global Center of Insurance Excellence," says Martin Eling, Full Professor of Insurance Economics and Director at the I.VW-HSG. "Our inclusion in the list confirms that we’re on the right track with our research and teaching and also helps us extend our international network with partners from academia and the economy."

The International Insurance Society always endeavours to interlink the most important actors from the insurance business at an international level. Among other things, this should enable a better exchange with regard to issues such as regulations, finance and corporate governance. The IIS is based in New York and has been in existence since 1965; its membership is made up of corporate representatives as well as authorities and academics from 90 countries.
