On 29 September 2018, 575 undergraduates were awarded the degree of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. HSG) on the occasion of the Bachelors’ Graduation Day at the University of St.Gallen.

29 September 2018. At the Bachelors' Graduation Day, a total of 575 graduates were handed their degree certificates in the following majors:

  • 365 in Business Administration,
  • 60 in International Affairs
  • 64 in Economics,
  • 43 in Law and Economics,
  • 43 in Law.

Deep working thanks to focusing
President Thomas Bieger reminded the graduates of the fact that many options were open to them after graduation. They now had the freedom to do what they wanted to do. Particularly in the age of multioptionality and constantly available mobile communication, he hoped that the graduates would have an opportunity to do some work that would capture their hands, heads and hearts. To succeed in this, Thomas Bieger gave the graduates three tips: "Structure your goals, provide yourself with time structures, and concentrate on one single level of work." With regard to the last tip, in particular, it would be important not to lose one’s focus. Only in this way could maximum performance be achieved. This would also mean, however, not being available through mobile communication, i.e. the smartphone, from time to time. "This will enable you to think a little further ahead, to recognise consequences and to take interlinkages into account."

Attractive social programme
The musical background to the ceremony was provided by the HSG Big Band. HSG Alumni President Urs Landolf congratulated the graduates on their first academic degree. He outlined the great advantages of the large HSG Alumni network for new graduates, in particular, and encouraged them to become actively involved in it. During the Bachelors' Graduation Day, graduates, their relatives and guests were able to enjoy a varied social programme ranging from themed guided tours in the city and guided tours of artworks at the University to Prof. Dr. Bernadette Dilger’s taster lecture. In the evening, HSG Alumni held the traditional Graduation Party in St.Gallen.
