8,232 students at the HSG

In Autumn Semester 2015, 8,232 students are enrolled at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) (previous year: 8,020). The overall proportion of women is 34.15 per cent (32.97). The students come from 80 nations.

17 December 2015. A total of 1,660 (1,476) young people are studying in the Assessment Year. The proportion of women at this level amounts to 36 per cent (36). From among the 2,666 (2,654) undergraduates at the Bachelor’s Level, 870 (828) are women, which is tantamount to 33 per cent (31). 34 per cent (32) of the 3,201 (3,143) students enrolled at the Master's Level are women. The proportion of women among the 689 (719) doctoral students is 37 per cent (36). Further 16 (28) students are enrolled in supplementary courses.

Canton Zurich strongly represented

In the statistics of the cantons of origin (residence at the time of admission to the University), the Canton of Zurich with 1,116 (1070) moved the Canton of St.Gallen with 894 (874) into second place. Third place is the Canton of Aargau with 384 (383) students, followed by the Canton of Bern and Thurgau each with 358 students (Bern: 331, Thurgau: 352). Substantial groups are also provided by the Canton of Lucerne with 271 (268) students, Basel-Landschaft with 209 (2016) and the Grisons with 204 (214) students.

Students from 80 nations
The largest group of foreign students come from German-speaking countries: Germany 1,523 (1,507), Austria 247 (229) and Liechtenstein 75 (71). Major groups come from Italy 97 (86), France 85 (70), China 78 (84), Russia 46 (50), the USA 40 (41), Spain 32 (34), India 32 (34), Singapore 30 (34), Sweden 28 (27), Brazil 24 (25), and Japan 24 (21). All in all, students from 80 (88) nations are enrolled at the HSG. The quota of foreign students at the HSG is limited to 25 per cent by law.

The enrolment statistics are published annually in December.
