The Long Night of the Career

The HSG and the FHS St.Gallen have invited their students to the first “Long Night of the Career” on Thursday, 13 November 2014 from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight. Seven Swiss universities will be providing Information for their students off the beaten track of classic recruitment.

6 November 2014. For once, getting up late will be worth it: on 13 November from 6 p.m., the HSG will receive its students with corporate representatives from various industries in the Mensa, Dufourstrasse 50, St.Gallen. On that occasion, they will be in a position to win interesting prizes in a “career game” that was specially developed for this event, revise their CVs in a CV Workshop and gather ideas for their own start-ups.

Former students and other experts will provide tips for an optimal social media presence, small talk, networking and stylish clothes at the workplace. Memory training will also be on the programme. Students who, on top of it all, will get up early the following morning will be able to discuss careers and career decisions with Raiffeisen CEO Dr. Pierin Vincenz at 8 a.m. on 14. November 2014 over a cup of coffee and a croissant.

Career information in a casual atmosphere
“With the Long Night of the Career, we wanted to provide our students with an opportunity to obtain information about career paths in a casual atmosphere for a change, to prepare for their career entry and to get to know exciting people,” says Franziska Haller from the Career Services Center of the University of St.Gallen. The other institutions involved in the Long Night of the Career are the Career Services of ETH Zurich, of the St.Gallen University of Applied Sciences, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Art, the Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil, the University of Basel, the HSG and the University of Zurich. On 13 November 2014, they will all be staging a “career night” specially tailored to their respective students.

Career Bar and party in the Meeting Point

During the Long Night of the Career, students can discuss their concerns with experts, employers and professionals. “Students are kindly invited to simply drop in; suits and ties are not necessary. Those who want to can meet fellow students in the Food Corner and in the Career Bar,” says Markus Kühne, Head of the Career Services Center at the HSG. Students who want to extend their revelries beyond midnight will be able to do so at the “HSG meets FHS after party” in the Meeting Point, Blumenbergplatz 9, St.Gallen.

Students of the FHS St.Gallen can also expect an unusual event: they will be offered application photo shootings, insights into former students’ and current Master’s students’ career paths, as well as short lectures on self-marketing and self-management. The FHS St.Gallen is looking forward to lively discussions with lectures on career issues in the FHS Library, Rosenbergstrasse 59, St.Gallen.
