Admission test at the HSG

9 July 2013. A quarter of all students at the HSG are foreign nationals. Since the number of foreign applicants exceeds the statutory 25 per cent ceiling, the HSG conducts a written admission test every year. In this way, the HSG intends to enable the best candidates to study in St.Gallen.

This year, more than 850 testees from 35 nations have registered for the University’s admission test. About 20 per cent may expect to be admitted. The content of the test is supplied by ITB Consulting (Institute of Test Development and Talent Research) in Bonn, Germany. The written part of the test will take place in the St.Gallen Olma Halls 2.1 and 3.1 on 10 July.

Test and interview
The written test examines five modules: cognitive skills such as text analysis, quantitative problem solution, pattern recognition, linguistic systems and diagram interpretation. Specimen questions are available online. Candidates who are on the borderline between admission and non-admission will additionally be invited for an interview on the following day, on the strength of which the decision regarding admission will be made.

The 30-minute oral interview will focus on candidates’ personalities. What counts here is a sense of responsibility, the ability to take criticism, and social commitment. During the day of the test, people accompanying the testees can go on a guided tour of the City of St.Gallen.

From Spain to Singapore
In 2008, the number of applicants exceeded 1,000 for the first time. This year’s testees come from countries such as Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Croatia, Slovakia, Norway, Sweden, Greece, India, Ukraine, Singapore, Rumania, Russia, Belarus, Malaysia, Morocco, Lebanon and Lithuania.
