3 December 2012. In a mere three years, the HSG has succeeded in leaping from 30th place to among the top ten in the Financial Times ranking. This year, the University of St.Gallen shares 7th place with the IMD Business School in Lausanne. The top three places are occupied by IE Business School in Madrid, followed by the London Business School and HEC Paris.

Quality label for manager education
“It is a special honour for the HSG to be among the ten best business universities in Europe,” says Thomas Bieger, President of the University of St.Gallen. “We have done a great deal of hard work in the last few years to reach this top position. The gratifying result shows that we offer an excellent education for specialists and managers. We want to and have to maintain and further improve quality in teaching and research.” This is not only necessary to provide an outstanding and internationally oriented education for the Swiss labour market but also to be able to stand our ground in the ever fiercer competition between universities. “As a university outside the big business centres, the HSG only stands a chance through a high reputation and a high degree of quality,” emphasises Thomas Bieger.

Four individual rankings, one overall ranking
In its annual European Business Schools Ranking, the Financial Times condenses four individual rankings, which are published in the course of the year. Whereas the four individual rankings are a worldwide evaluation, the overall annual ranking published today focuses on Europe’s best business universities. Among these, the University of St.Gallen occupies the following positions in the individual rankings:

  • 1st (also worldwide) in the Masters in Management-Ranking with the Strategy and International Management (SIM-HSG) programme
  • 17th in the ranking of the open and customised executive education programmes
  • 23rd in the ranking of the full-time MBA programmes
  • 26th in the ranking of the Executive MBA programmes

In addition, the HSG occupies 5th place worldwide in the ranking of the Master’s programmes in Finance. However, this is not taken into consideration in the European Business Schools Ranking.
